Notes, docs and wikis that are yours.

Offline first, open source.

meerpad is a home for everything you write down: pages made of blocks, the way Notion does it, nested as deep as you like, in workspaces for the parts of your life. It keeps a copy of your pages on your device, so it opens and edits without a network, and any page can become a website.

Workspaces, a tree of pages, and pages made of blocks you write in Markdown.

Write it down, find it again

Everything is a page, every page is made of blocks, and every page can hold more pages. The rest follows from that.

Blocks, like Notion

Text, headings, lists, to-dos, toggles, quotes, callouts, code, tables, images, files, bookmarks, embeds and equations. Press / for the list of them, and drag a block by its handle to move it anywhere on the page, or into a grid to sit beside another.

Markdown as you type

#  is a heading, -  a bullet, []  a to-do, >  a quote and --- a divider. Inside a line it is meerail's dialect:

**Bold**, _italic_, ~~struck~~, ==highlight== and [links](https://…)

A workspace per part of your life

Work, House, Farm: each workspace is a page tree of its own, so the tractor manual never turns up between meeting notes. Move a page to another workspace and everything under it moves along.

Work House Farm

Everything in a page tree

Pages inside pages, as deep as you like, in the sidebar. Type [[ to link to any page by its name. A deleted page waits in the trash with everything below it, until you empty it.

Offline first, on every device

Your pages are kept on the device as well as on the server, so meerpad opens and edits on a train, in a barn, on a plane. Edits wait in a queue and sync when the network is back. Two devices editing one page merge field by field, not page by page.

Share a link to view or edit

A share link lets anyone read a page and every page below it, without an account. An edit link lets them change it too. Turn either off, or replace it with a new one, whenever you like.

Databases whose rows are pages

A database is a page with properties: text, numbers, select and status, dates, checkboxes, people, files and links. Every row is a page of its own, with room for notes. Look at the same rows as a table, a board, a list, a gallery or a Gantt chart, each view with its own filters and sort order.

Drag files in

Drop pictures, PDFs or any other file onto a page. Pictures show in place, PDFs preview inline, and everything else becomes a file to download, right where you put it.

JPG, PNG PDF Anything

Paste a link, keep the file

Paste a link to a picture or a PDF and meerpad offers to fetch it into the page. The manual is still there when the manufacturer's website is not.

Keyboard first

The shortcuts you already know from every editor, and Tab to nest a block under the one above it.

Publish any page as a website

One switch turns a page and every page below it into a website: the farm shop's opening hours, the club's wiki, a blog. It lives at meerpad.com/v/your-name right away (you pick the name), or on your own domain after one DNS record. Pick a template (minimal, docs with a sidebar, blog, or landing page), and every edit you make is on the site the moment it syncs.

Bring your Notion, databases included

Export a Notion workspace as Markdown & CSV and hand meerpad the zip. Pages and subpages, databases with their rows and properties, callouts, tables, pictures and attachments come across, and links between pages still point at each other. Big exports run in the background.

Get started

Use it here, run your own, or both: the code is the same, and so is the desktop app.

Sign in with your email

No password to make up: meerpad mails you a link and a code, and your workspaces are waiting on the other side.

The desktop app

A window of its own on Linux, macOS and Windows, signed in by the link in your email, like meerato's. Built from the repository for now.

make desktop

Open source, AGPL-3.0

The server, the editor and the desktop shell, all of it on GitHub. The hosted service runs the same code you can read.

Or host it yourself

PostgreSQL and the server, in Docker, on http://127.0.0.1:8050, with the sign-in mail printed to the log until you configure SMTP. COOLIFY.md in the repository covers a server with TLS, *.yourdomain for published websites, and custom domains.
